WaterAlert Privacy Act Statement
When you apply to use WaterAlert data products, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) collects some information from you. This Privacy Act Statement is meant to help you understand what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. This is important; we hope you will take time to read it carefully.
Authority: This information is solicited under the authority of 40 U.S.C. 486 (c), and 41 CFR part 201-7.
Purpose: By providing the requestor’s email address, text-enabled phone number, and link to user authentication service (USGS Active Directory or login.gov) the requestor is submitting information to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to be approved to be a user of the WaterAlert system. Once approved, WaterAlert will store the email address and/or text-enabled phone number. This will allow the requestor to access and receive topics of interest from the WaterAlert notification system.
Routine Uses: Only USGS WaterAlert system will have access to the email address, text-enabled phone number, and associated user authentication. The USGS WaterAlert system stores the unique identifier and email address provided by the link to the user authentication service.
